The UKCA is in Northern Ireland this weekend!

Today we are all systems go at the Antrim Forum in Northern Ireland for the Antrim Primary Schools Festival! This event is happening throughout the whole of today, we can’t wait to see all of the cheerleaders, coaches and supporters at the event. This event is an important date in the calendar for us here at The UKCA. The majority of our cheerleaders are based in England so it can be difficult for us to arrange large events of this scale in the area of Northern Ireland. However, we do ensure that we have events which run there throughout the year, so this Festival is a wonderful experience for us to get our young cheerers together and have a fun filled day.

Due to our lack of high numbers of UKCA members within Northern Ireland we recommend that if you want to run a course or complete more UKCA events & educational based programmes, that you set up a course in your area. This is a great chance for experienced coaches and members to up their skills and take on the challenge of running a UKCA course themselves. It’s brilliant to be in control of your own training and you will be able to create a fantastic cheer community in your area. Please find all of the information for setting up a club or hosting a course in your area here.

We can’t wait for all of our events in Northern Ireland and will be adding as many events in that area as we can.

We are proud of you! Team UKCA.

With the Northern Ireland National Championships only 1 week away we can’t wait to see all the new skills put into practice! There are many UK Cheerleading competitions which take place throughout the year, we’re also looking forward to the championships in March – how could we forget? Host a Course in 2015!

We often receive queries surrounding courses across The UK & NI. We organise many courses however, if you are struggling to source an event near you then you can easily host a course. This is a fantastic way to boost your qualifications within your Cheer squad, which then allows you to compete at a higher level in our competitions which run throughout the year.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in doing then please do not hesitate to contact us here. You only need a minimum of 10 people on your course for it to go ahead. To host a closed course means that you will source the entrants, however, an open course will allow people to book & register their attendance. It is up to you which kind of course you would like to hold. The maximum amount of people who can attend your event is 30, unless another number is agreed with The UKCA when booking.

66F32383-CD52-4016-A158-8FCA9E3B2179

We will support your event completely by providing promotional posters for you & emailing them over to you in advance of your course. Please be aware that if your course involves tumbling & stunting you must make sure that you have the appropriate mats and gymnastic equipment at your venue. This is important in regards of safety for all involved. Lunch is an important aspect of the day which must be organised. You’ll need to let people know whether they need to bring food with them or if there are facilities at your chosen venue.

Hosting a course is a great way to utilise your organisational skills & help others in the UKCA build on their talents.

The UKCA & This Girl Can

The UK Cheerleading Association is proud to announce that we are an Official partner of, This Girl Can. As Cheerleading is a predominantly female sport, we are incredibly excited to be part of this female campaign. The UKCA brings 200,000 girls to the programme, who are already involved with many sports covered by This Girl Can.

The This Girl Can project developed by Sport England, supports female exercise and sporting activities, praising women for their participation, no matter their appearance when doing so. This is an important issue which needs to be addressed as, “Fear of judgement is stopping many of us from taking part in exercise. But as thousands of women up and down the country are proving, it really doesn’t have to” – This Girl Can.

4ED6CAA3-86E5-43CD-837C-6173DF1927B5

This Girl Can aims to get women feeling inspired about their involvement in sport & the empowering message presented by This Girl Can is also echoed within The UKCA. “This Girl Can is here to inspire women to wiggle, jiggle, move and prove that judgement is a barrier that can be overcome.” Modern society and popular culture dictate that women must look their best at all times, but This Girl Can challenges these topics, bringing the issue into mainstream debate.

On their website you can, “Meet the stars of our campaign who are doing what they do, and letting nothing (not even sweat) stand in their way.” Using the hashtag #ThisGirlCan connect with them via Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Vine, YouTube, Google+.

If you aren’t already involved then join the movement by heading over to, This Girl Can.co.uk

We are proud of you!

Team UKCA.

Cheer Squads & UKCA in the Press

We’ve had a brilliant start to the year here at The UKCA. In last week’s blog we talked through our competition schedule, and how excited we are for the fun we have in place for you all in 2015! With only 1 week into January 2015, our teams are already flying the flag for Cheerleading across the UK. There are some brilliant news articles circulating surrounding Cheerleading, showcasing the great work being done by our coaches and members up and down the Country.

Winter Championships Review

The UKCA Winter Championships 2014! This weekend brought around our highly anticipated UKCA Winter Championships at the National Cycling Centre, and what an event it turned out to be!

Saturday kicked off our final UKCA Comp’ of the year with the typical skill and cheer spirit and it carried right throughout the weekend. As we have come to expect from our cheerleaders we were treated to some fantastic performances and with the raw talent of our competitors noticeable on both days of the competition. We’d like to offer our congratulations to all of the squads who took part and say thank you for making it such a fantastic weekend to be a part of!

On Saturday the cheer and stunt teams blew the crowd away with some superb, acrobatic routines and the Street Cheer teams put in some sublime performances on Sunday. The Pom Dancers were typically terrific and the costumes of all of the squads were fabulous, as always!

The standard of every squad who took part in the championships made picking the stand-out performers a difficult task for our judges, indeed. However, our skilled experts have a keen eye for the exceptional performers and were able to decide on a winner for each category. Click here to view a full list of the UKCA Winter Championships award winners.

Of course with every UKCA Competition there are the all important Cheer Spirit Awards. Cheer Spirit Awards are given to the teams who display an outstanding level of positivity, support and spirit throughout the day.

On Saturday, Rayz All-Stars were awarded the Milano Spirit Award after their brilliant performances and unwavering encouragement for everybody throughout the day. Urban Angels were awarded Sunday’s Insure4sport Spirit Award for the positivity they exuded for themselves and their peers during the day’s competition.
