Level 4 Course in Manchester

This weekend we had great success at our Level 4 Courses held in Manchester. The event was held at Wright Robinson College, Manchester and was a roaring success! The course was ran fantastically by several volunteer Cheerleaders, and all participants of the course passed which was a fantastic achievement for all involved.

Everyone’s success was particularly special as the Level 4 courses are so advanced, requiring such a high level of skill, yet all of our UKCA members passed – so a big congratulations is due for you ladies! The Level 4 course teaches a large variety of skills and moves throughout Cheerleading. We have some lovely images of the talented Cheerers themselves having a lovely weekend!

Sporting Promise Event in Wakefield

The Sporting Promise Celebration Event was held yesterday in Wakefield, it was a fantastic day! Take a look at the images below and see for yourself the fun which was had by all! Many activities were carried out, including warm ups, street cheer and pom dance. The event was held in partnership with The UKCA and Matalan Sporting Promise, with an aim to teach an array of sports to youngsters.

The day was wonderfully successful, forwarding the notion that, “Sporting Promise is a fun and exciting way to engage young people in a whole range of sports and physical activity. It’s really important that sport is made as appealing as possible to help encourage our pupils to become far more fit and active.” Emma Arnold, Teacher, Whartons Primary.

Exeter Cheer Festival is Next Weekend!

Exeter Cheer Festival is coming your way!

We discussed in August that the competition would roll around soon and sure enough it really has! Next weekend a fantastic Cheerleading competition will take place! We discussed many important features of the Festival in our previous post from August 2014, such as:

“The youngest Cheerer involved in the Exeter Cheer Festival will be 7 years old. Whilst the Masters teams must have 75% of their squad at the age of 25. Here at The UKCA we enjoy the atmosphere at our events when we have such a wide range of cheerers. Whether you are 8 or 18 you are welcome to come along and cheer as we love to see so much spirit!”

However, we hope that you are all incredibly excited for your time there next weekend! We can’t wait! Here at The UK Cheerleading Association we love being involved with other relating events and organisations such as this one. It is so great and inspiring for us all to work together to help to promote each others events and get as many people involved as we all can. Afterall, Cheerleading is “The Sport of Smiles!” Make sure you head down if you love Cheerleading, want to have a brilliant weekend and meet more cheerleaders and those who are passionate about the sport! It is a great way for coaches to meet as well, so we recommend you take your squads down together for some fantastic Cheer networking!

So if you are heading down to The Exeter Cheerleading Festival next weekend then we hope you all have a fantastic time! And good luck to those performing!

Ready For The Winter Championships?

So, we know that you might think that we are talking about the Winter Championships a bit early but… it is much sooner than you think! Yes, we are in September now, but next week it is the start of October which means that there is only 8 weeks of training left. Scary, right? Well, it need not be! Considering the skills that were showed in June and July we are almost nervous at the skill we are sure to see in December. We are prepared to be blown away!

Especially, when performing on their own. So don’t be scared to enter alone!

A fab weekend at The European Cheerleading Championships 2014!

We had an absolutely fantastic time at the European Cheerleading Championships, what a great weekend! The talent and skill shown at each competition truly blew us away. We’d like to congratulate all of the competing squads and everybody who took part in the event. Not only the competitors themselves, but those who were there to join in the fun with us too! We always have such brilliant volunteers who work so hard at each event.

The categories were so impressive, Partner Stunt really stood out this year – wow! It’s incredible the level of skill you all have! Street Cheer was also brilliant with lots of creative costumes added into routines to maximise the stylistic dance routines. But, really we loved all the categories and you all worked that floor!

The hosts this year were wonderful and kept the whole arena buzzing with electricity! It was great to have resident DJ Caino and Jason along with their new team Lane and Vicky. Lane had such energy and Vicky’s singing really added a fun element to the day!

We had lots of fun making the, “My favourite thing about today…” video series featuring everyone from the Polish Cheerleaders, to the judges. Check them out on our Instagram account … Honestly, they will make you giggle!

2014 European Cheerleading Championships Come Home to Manchester

As the world’s greatest cyclists gear up for this weekend’s Tour de France in Yorkshire, the British home of cycling in Manchester is hosting its own high-energy international competition – the 2014 European Cheerleading Championships.

Over 1,600 cheerleaders from ten countries will descend on Manchester to take part in this year’s European Cheerleading Championships, hosted at the National Cycling Centre’s Manchester Velodrome.

Manchester is well known as the UK’s Sporting City and it is no coincidence that it is also the national home of cheerleading, one of the fastest growing sports in the country. The United Kingdom Cheerleading Association, a National Organisation for the sport in Great Britain, is based in the region and (in partnership with Manchester City Council) four national championship events are hosted in the city each year.

Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council, stated:

“We are immensely proud to be hosting such a great event here in Manchester. As a World leading Sport City, Manchester recognizes the benefits to be gained from Cheerleading – a fast-growing sport which showcases physical activity in a fun and engaging way.”

Pat Hawkins, President of the United Kingdom Cheerleading Association, commented:

“This event is the biggest European Championships ever. I know everyone here will be wowed by the teams competing this weekend.”

Vojko Korosec, the President of the European Cheerleading Association, said:

“It is a privilege to be part of this exciting sport and to witness its growth and development throughout Europe. Competitors have trained hard throughout the year to be here, it is truly a unique sport.”

Spectators can buy tickets on the door for this weekend’s action-packed event. Doors open 8am on Saturday 5th July and Sunday 6th July!

We had so much fun at The National Schools Championships 2014!

First of all we would like to happily announce that the GB Swimmer Lauren Quigley has been given the title of, the Official UKCA Ambassador! She came along at the weekend to show her support for the competition and we had a brilliant time with her. It is an honour to have such a talented and inspirational lady as our Ambassador.

“Such an honour and proud to be asked and now named as an ambassador for The UKCA!” – Lauren Quigley, follow her on Twitter @LaurenAQuigley to see what’s she’s up to.

Well, we had a fantastic weekend at the Manchester Velodrome for The National Schools Championships! The level of skill and talent we saw over the weekend really blew us away!

Congratulations to all the teams who performed across the Saturday and the Sunday, you should all be so proud of yourselves. Whether you were involved with Cheerleading, Pom dance or Street Cheer, there were so many teams that really impressed us – the freestylers were great too!

We would like to give a big thank you and well done to the Insure4Sport Spirit Award winners, The Radclyffe School and the Milano Spirit Award winners, Tintwistle! Your encouragement and support over the weekend was incredible!

A massive thank you to all the coaches for putting so much effort into choreographing the routines, and making sure the squads were ready for the competition! Coaches play such an important role within The UKCA! Don’t forget to show your support for the UKCA coach Vicky Holwarth by donating to help fund her dreams of Rio 2016 here

We would also like to give a big thank you to all the volunteers who worked so hard over the weekend to ensure everything was perfect! Your input, help and support was so important in making the weekend the success that it was! Your efforts are second to none and it’s truly amazing the support that we receive from associations such as The Teenage Cancer Trust

But, of course we can’t forget to thank all the parents, friends and family who came along and gave their support. The banners, signs and special posters made by so many of you really added to the atmosphere of the weekend, and each year the crowd input gets more and more impressive!

Who could forget DJ Jimmy, Jason and the DJ Caino takeover? Our Instagram was officially hijacked by the UKCA’s resident Compere DJ Caino! Check out our account: http://instagram.com/theukca to see what the master of mischief got up to! #cainotakeover

Don’t forget to go to our Facebook page here and Twitter: @UKCheerleading for everything on stage and back stage from the National Schools Championships!

It was so lovely to see the sweets brought in, cupcakes baked, and especially the all around team spirit from everyone involved with The UKCA!

Finally, thank you to absolutely everyone who was involved, we loved your spirit!

Here are some of our favourite pictures we received from members and those who attended over the weekend, thank you for sharing with us:
