Kobika Starlites at Santa Fun Run

Yesterday morning the Kobika Starlites braved the cold winter weather to cheer “Let’s go Santa’s. Let’s go!” to 2000 runners dressed as Santa Claus for a Fun Run in Marlow.

Kobika Starlites at Santa Fun Run

The annual event held at Higginson Park sees thousands of people adorn the famous red and white outfit to raise money to help the South Bucks Hospice with their work on a new hospice. As well as helping other Rotary charities.

In the last eight years, over 6900 runners have helped raise a staggering £115,000 for good causes.

Santa lift

We can only imagine the sight of hundreds of Santa’s running and walking 5km (3 miles) around the streets of Marlow. What a way to kick off the festive season! We are so proud that the Kobika Starlites went along to cheer and show their support for the generous runners.

Amongst the Santa’s was Matalan Sporting Promise Ambassador, Sir Steve Redgrave, who the team managed to get a sneaky photo with.

I’d just like to say thank you for making the squad feel really welcome on Saturday. It was such a brilliant day. The friendliness of all staff and competitors put the girls at ease and they can’t wait to perform again.

Cheerleading World Championships

Our Winter Championships isn’t the only cheerleading championship taking place this weekend. Thailand will be hosting the 7th Cheerleading World Championships (CWC) in Bangkok.

CWC

The country has already hosted the major international competition multiple times and cheerleading as a sport is held in high regard by the Thai authorities because it improves both physical and mental fitness of young people. The high standard they host the competition has secured them this year’s championship from the International Federation of Cheerleading.

Impact Arena

It is predicted that this year’s event will be the biggest Cheerleading World Championships in history. With many of the best athletes from all over the world converging on the Kingdom of Thailand at the Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani, to represent their respective countries. These athletes who have trained long and hard hours will represent their respective countries in a competition for cheerleading perfection.

And we are proud to announce that the UK have their own entry heading out for the competition.

Team UK, made up of 35 members from several teams will be travelling out to the Thai capital with UKCA representative Coach Hannah Jones. We wish Hannah and the team the best of luck out there and want them to know that “We are proud of you. Say we are proud of you”.

We’ll be tracking the team’s journey and experience at the CWC on our Facebook and Twitter feeds so keep a look out for their progress.
