An Update from Vicky Howarth!

It’s great to keep up with what’s going on in the world of our coaches, cheerleaders and volunteers. Especially, when we have been following a campaign such as Vicky’s suited to help and encourage the dreams of our members. You will remember that we have been following the story and success of Vicky Howarth throughout the year and the whole of 2014. She has been working, training and practicing hard to progress her equestrian career.

Vicky has struggled with her sight for many years and is now officially registered as blind. However, this does not stop her in everyday life or in the hobbies which she is regularly involved in. We have been campaigning alongside Vicky to help raise money to send her and her horse to represent Great Britain in the Olympic Games in Rio 2016 – which we all can’t wait for! now we are happy to announce that we have had an update from Vicky herself…

As well as her many talents which she shares Vicky gives a large contribution to society, The UKCA and many young people via her volunteer work. The passion and energy which she puts into her work is incredible. She has also given up so many of her weekends to volunteer at our Cheerleading competitions, which run throughout the year. however, more recently she has continued to compete at the Supreme Showdown winning 3 Championships in the disability classes and also in the able bodied classes.

As you can certainly guess due to her working commitments, Vicky has been incredibly busy. But she has great news to inform us with, she has recently been involved in a television documentary! A film crew travelled from Cornwall University to film Vicky and her horse Duster, for 3 days straight. Her compelling story is an inspiration to us all. When the recorded piece is finished and edited it will be entered into the Sheffield Film Festival you can find a link to the festival website here to find out more about the event.

We can’t wait to see the finished film!

Level 4 Course in Manchester

This weekend we had great success at our Level 4 Courses held in Manchester. The event was held at Wright Robinson College, Manchester and was a roaring success! The course was ran fantastically by several volunteer Cheerleaders, and all participants of the course passed which was a fantastic achievement for all involved.

Everyone’s success was particularly special as the Level 4 courses are so advanced, requiring such a high level of skill, yet all of our UKCA members passed – so a big congratulations is due for you ladies! The Level 4 course teaches a large variety of skills and moves throughout Cheerleading. We have some lovely images of the talented Cheerers themselves having a lovely weekend!

Sporting Promise Event in Wakefield

The Sporting Promise Celebration Event was held yesterday in Wakefield, it was a fantastic day! Take a look at the images below and see for yourself the fun which was had by all! Many activities were carried out, including warm ups, street cheer and pom dance. The event was held in partnership with The UKCA and Matalan Sporting Promise, with an aim to teach an array of sports to youngsters.

The day was wonderfully successful, forwarding the notion that, “Sporting Promise is a fun and exciting way to engage young people in a whole range of sports and physical activity. It’s really important that sport is made as appealing as possible to help encourage our pupils to become far more fit and active.” Emma Arnold, Teacher, Whartons Primary.

Cedars Academy Basic Cheer Skills Course

Are you thinking about engaging with one of our available Cheerleading courses?

Well if so, here is a fantastic sneak peak at what goes on at our course based events! We have some behind the scenes footage from the Level 2 Cheerleading Basic Skills @ Cedars Academy – Basic Cheer Skills Course on 28th October in Bedfordshire. Our courses can range through from small teams to larger groups of Cheerleaders and coaches. It simply depends on the area and which course we are running. As you can see from these photos this was a rather busy course! However, this does not mean that you will miss out being in a large group, as during all courses we help and guide our Cheerleaders to make sure that everybody is at the same level. Instead, this just means that you have the opportunity to meet more Cheerers!

Courses are a fantastic way to broaden your skills and learn more moves which can be incorporated into routines with your squad, or alone. You will also be able to help others on your team due to the extra training which you have received. It is always best to keep up with your training and skills with us here at The UKCA, as it will work to enhance your talents within Cheerleading.

Overall, we highly suggest you sign up to our courses to keep your moves as fresh as possible. It is also a fantastic way to move and progress into different areas of Cheering. For example, if you specialise in pom dance but would like to move into street cheer, then you can use our courses to your advantage to do so!

So don’t just take our word for it, take a look at these pictures and get involved in the fun coming to you soon!

Exeter Cheer Festival is Next Weekend!

Exeter Cheer Festival is coming your way!

We discussed in August that the competition would roll around soon and sure enough it really has! Next weekend a fantastic Cheerleading competition will take place! We discussed many important features of the Festival in our previous post from August 2014, such as:

“The youngest Cheerer involved in the Exeter Cheer Festival will be 7 years old. Whilst the Masters teams must have 75% of their squad at the age of 25. Here at The UKCA we enjoy the atmosphere at our events when we have such a wide range of cheerers. Whether you are 8 or 18 you are welcome to come along and cheer as we love to see so much spirit!”

However, we hope that you are all incredibly excited for your time there next weekend! We can’t wait! Here at The UK Cheerleading Association we love being involved with other relating events and organisations such as this one. It is so great and inspiring for us all to work together to help to promote each others events and get as many people involved as we all can. Afterall, Cheerleading is “The Sport of Smiles!” Make sure you head down if you love Cheerleading, want to have a brilliant weekend and meet more cheerleaders and those who are passionate about the sport! It is a great way for coaches to meet as well, so we recommend you take your squads down together for some fantastic Cheer networking!

So if you are heading down to The Exeter Cheerleading Festival next weekend then we hope you all have a fantastic time! And good luck to those performing!
