Thank you

We received this wonderful message from the Southport Scorpions:

I’d just like to say thank you for making the squad feel really welcome on Saturday. It was such a brilliant day. The friendliness of all staff and competitors put the girls at ease and they can’t wait to perform again.

We’ll definitely enter again in March and May. Thanks again and see you soon!

Cheerleading World Championships

Our Winter Championships isn’t the only cheerleading championship taking place this weekend. Thailand will be hosting the 7th Cheerleading World Championships (CWC) in Bangkok.

CWC

The country has already hosted the major international competition multiple times and cheerleading as a sport is held in high regard by the Thai authorities because it improves both physical and mental fitness of young people. The high standard they host the competition has secured them this year’s championship from the International Federation of Cheerleading.

Impact Arena

It is predicted that this year’s event will be the biggest Cheerleading World Championships in history. With many of the best athletes from all over the world converging on the Kingdom of Thailand at the Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani, to represent their respective countries. These athletes who have trained long and hard hours will represent their respective countries in a competition for cheerleading perfection.

And we are proud to announce that the UK have their own entry heading out for the competition.

Team UK, made up of 35 members from several teams will be travelling out to the Thai capital with UKCA representative Coach Hannah Jones. We wish Hannah and the team the best of luck out there and want them to know that “We are proud of you. Say we are proud of you”.

We’ll be tracking the team’s journey and experience at the CWC on our Facebook and Twitter feeds so keep a look out for their progress.

For more information on the event, visit the website.

Stretching Guide for Cheerleading

Stretching is an essential part of cheerleading. A good stretching routine can help to minimize muscle imbalances, prevent injury, improve your calisthenic ability and your overall cheerleading performance.

Stretching

ptssc.net has created a guide to stretching that could be useful to our cheerleaders wanting to practice at home and to coaches looking for exercises for a class or training session.

If practising at home, it is advisable that you check with your parents/coaches first before trying poses yourself. Take it easy with the stretches to begin with. Don’t try new stretches on your own without help, and don’t overdo them. Do what your body can handle; stretches should never hurt.

Follow this link for the stretching guide.

Cheerleading is…

Cheerleading at Manchester Velodrome

Cheerleading is a way of life, shared by a chosen few,
It is working as a unit in everything you do.

Cheerleading is a rivalry, the competition makes you strong,
It is sharing secrets and tears, learning to get along.

Cheerleading is that ongoing drive to be the very best,
It is patience, perseverance, and very little rest.

Cheerleading is having poise and charm with every word you say,
It is total dedication twenty-four hours a day.
It is always being ready with encouragement and a smile,
Cheerleading is your chance to express your individual style.

Cheerleading is reaching out to comfort a sister who is sad,
It is defending each other in good times and the bad.

Cheerleading is a talent to be able to shine on cue,
It is hiding the pain and anguish that if only half the people knew.

Cheerleaders, after all, are real people that sometimes get down
but when they’re in the spotlight, they must never put on a frown.

Cheerleaders are actresses always ready to go,
That is why it’s important for all the world to know.
Not every girl can be a cheerleader, it takes a special kind,
Cheerleaders are full of life and a little bit out of their mind.

Share this with your friends and let them know what it means to be a cheerleader.
