Pioneers Show and Awards Evening 2013

Last week, the Pioneers held a Show and Awards Evening. Pioneers master Ian Wroe sent us this information about the event –

“We would like to send a huge thanks to Caino for hosting the event for us and to president of UKCA Pat Hawkins as the guest of honour. Nearly 100 cheerleaders took part in the show in front of family and friends. Caino did his usual great job as compere and Pat was kind enough to present the Pioneer trophies to the winners. As head coach, Fayhe Mitchell planned a fabulous evening, and surprised us all with a solo performance during the finale. It was a great evening to be part of the cheerleading family”

A Successful Coaching Course in Belfast

If you haven’t yet attended a UKCA course, you may wonder how it works. Karen Graham got in touch with a report about a recent coaching course held in Belfast. Have a read…

“A further 15 coaches gained their UKCA coach education certification in Belfast on the 6th & 7th April and an enjoyable and spirited weekend was had by all.

UKCA Tutors Karen Graham & Kimberley Clark delivered the syllabus over the weekend to a most enthusiastic and motivated group of adults. Candidates aged between 18-40 yrs attended both Basic Cheerleading Skills and Basic Stunts courses.”

“The Home Country also made history by having their first male coach attend UKCA courses and successfully earn his qualifications.

Gary came with an open mind and got fully involved in all aspects of the syllabus and as a multi-skills coach, he commented on how technical and dynamic our sport of smiles was.

Quote “It looks easy until you try it, there is lots to think about and a lot of co-ordination needed”

What a role model Gary was, come on men – your sport needs you!”

Bucks Secondary Schools Cheerleading Competition

A recent Competition held in Buckinghamshire. Thanks to Emma Maidwell for the following information…

Last Thursday afternoon saw around 150 young cheerleaders take part in a breath-taking display of Jumps, Stunts, Cheers and Chants at the annual ‘Bucks Secondary Schools Cheerleading Competition’ at Sir William Ramsay School. The event was hosted by the award winning Kobika Starlites.

All of the school squads have been training and practicing really hard over the last few months and along with their coaches put together some fantastic routines which kept the crowds completely enthralled.

Cheer comp 2013

Organiser and Coach, Katie Cobie said, ‘Due to the success of this event we decided to split the competition into 3 levels so that the more experienced squads competed at Level 3 and the newer squads at level 1. The independent judges had a hard task when making their final decisions but were very impressed with the professionalism and the skill of each competing squad’
Coach Bev Smith added ‘It is fantastic to be involved in something like this. All of the teams coming together and being given a chance to showcase their skills is amazing. Every squad did themselves proud and I can’t wait to get back and start working on new stunts and routines for next year!

If cheerleading is something that you think your school would like to get involved in, you can read more about it at www.kobikastarlites.co.uk

The final results of the competition were as follows:-
Level 3
1st Wycombe High Flyers, 2nd Borlase Blaze, 3rd Great Marlow Jaguars
Level 2
1st Wycombe High Flyers, 2nd Holmer Green Emeralds, 3rd Sir William Ramsay Sapphires
Level 1
1st Wycombe High Flyers, 2nd Great Marlow Jaguars, 3rd St Michaels Flames

A huge well done from the UKCA team to everybody who was a part of this fantastic competition.

Recognition for UKCA Competitors – The Pioneers

We love to see your press coverage, stories and articles. There is nothing we enjoy more than seeing the hard work of our competitors recognised.

We were excited to receive this message from Pioneers master, Ian Wroe. Attached was this excellent newspaper article highlighting the team’s need for sponsorship and their e-petition, which has been created to put to the government to change the status of cheerleading to a sport.

You can read the full article here.

More exciting still, included in Ian’s message was a letter from 10 Downing Street! Best wishes from the Prime Minister? Not bad!

This sort of coverage really highlights cheerleading and reaffirms the need for it to be recognised as a sport. It makes us very proud to see the hard work of our competitors and of cheerleaders across the UK in bringing the sport to the attention of the public.

Well done Pioneers! Keep up the hard work.

If you or your team receive any press coverage, or have a story you think would be of interest to our readers, please get in touch! We may just feauture it on our blog. Please forward any stories or information to marketing@ukca.org.uk
