Here at the UK Cheerleading Association we like to support the activities of our members even outside of what they do within our organisation. Just like we supported the activities of Victoria Howarth and her needs to make it to Rio 2016 – we are now supporting Natasha Barker! You can help her reach her £100 target by following this link here and pledging your support!

“I am using my position as a finalist in the Miss North West Beauty pageant as a platform to raise money and awareness for The Christie Young Oncology Unit. I am encouraging all the cheerleading squads I am involved with to raise money for this cause and invite other squads to join the fundraising attempt by accepting the Christie’s Cheer Challenge! I will personally be organising a series of fundraising events and charity collections in the hope that we can raise as much money as possible for the unit.”

What we’ve been up to!

As the leading organisation for Cheerleading in the UK, here at The UKCA we believe it is important to build close ties and work alongside charities. Ensuring partnerships are built and maintained across our development with charities such as the Teenage Cancer Trust is important to us. Find out more about the amazing work TCT do simply by clicking this link: https://www.teenagecancertrust.org.

Wouldn’t it be fantastic if your local Sainsbury’s registered charity of the year was The Teenage Cancer Trust? Just think how beneficial this could be to working towards helping thousands of young people! Please see the following information to learn how you can get involved:

Working together to raise awareness of the importance of sports to children and young adults today is one of our primary aims. Keeping children active in and out of school has become a concern, particularly with a lack of funding in this area. Therefore, this highlights how important it is for institutions to support each other and help those who help others.

This leads to The UKCA’s fundraising project surrounding Victoria Howarth. Vicky is a dedicated member of The UKCA, she trains, coaches and is registered as blind. We want to help Vicky on her way to Rio in 2016 where she dreams of competing in the Paralympics.

Let’s work together to make something amazing happen! Read more and donate here:

Kobika Starlites at Santa Fun Run

Yesterday morning the Kobika Starlites braved the cold winter weather to cheer “Let’s go Santa’s. Let’s go!” to 2000 runners dressed as Santa Claus for a Fun Run in Marlow.

The annual event held at Higginson Park sees thousands of people adorn the famous red and white outfit to raise money to help the South Bucks Hospice with their work on a new hospice. As well as helping other Rotary charities.

In the last eight years, over 6900 runners have helped raise a staggering £115,000 for good causes.

Santa lift

We can only imagine the sight of hundreds of Santa’s running and walking 5km (3 miles) around the streets of Marlow. What a way to kick off the festive season! We are so proud that the Kobika Starlites went along to cheer and show their support for the generous runners.

Amongst the Santa’s was Matalan Sporting Promise Ambassador, Sir Steve Redgrave, who the team managed to get a sneaky photo with.

We are proud of you. Say we are proud of you!

CLIC Sargent Fundraising Marathon

CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families. They provide clinical, practical and emotional support to help them cope with cancer and get the most out of life. They offer support from diagnosis onwards and aim to help the whole family deal with the impact of cancer, its treatment, life after treatment and sadly, in some cases, bereavement.

Yorkshire Marathon

The charity has people running in the Yorkshire Marathon, who are raising money for CLIC Sargent services.

And they need you!

CLIC Sargent are looking for volunteers aged 16 and over to go along to the race for a fun day out cheering on the wonderful runners.

It will be held on the 20th October in and around York from 8.30am to 4.30pm (subject to change from the race organisers). There is no experience required except enthusiasm and energy to cheer on the runners, as well as teamwork ability. There will be a full briefing two weeks prior to the event from the organisers and CLIC Sargent and volunteers from the charity will be accompanying the cheer support.

The charity are partners for the event so they need as many people as possible to come out and help support the runners. It is a fantastic cause and will be great experience for our cheer teams.

If you are interested or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Holli Kellett via email: Holli.Kellett@clicsargent.org.uk or telephone: 0113 288 3226.

Fund Raising at UKCA

Our events are fun and exciting for all involved. Everyone supports each other and the atmosphere is always electric! But the UKCA is about so much more.

We encourage our members and friends to support not just each other, but good causes too. Last year we supported a little boy called AJ. He suffers with Cerebral Palsy and was unable to walk without assistance. We helped to raise money for him to have an operation he so desperately needed. This year, he is here at the competition and walking around the velodrome!
