Thank you from the Saxons

Everyone is still recovering from the amazing European Championships and with good reason there was some amazing talent on display.

Team Saxon sent us some pictures of the squad representing the UKCA in our t-shirts and a lovely message. We couldn’t resist sharing it with everyone.

β€œThank you very much for a great weekend! What incredible performances and results for all of the UK teams! It was just brilliant and we loved every minute of it. Thank you for affording the Saxons the opportunity to represent the UK…we hope we did you proud!”

UKCA goes to the European Cheerleading Championships

We were thrilled to be invited to compete and judge in the European Cheerleading Championships in Italy. Joining us out there were twelve teams representing the United Kingdom and the UKCA.

We are so proud of all the teams’ efforts who displayed talented moves over the weekend. They all deserve a huge pat on the back!

We were inundated with updates on Twitter and today we feature some of the pictures that were sent over the weekend in Italy.

UKCA School’s Championships June 2013

Last weekend saw the school cheerleading teams descend on the National Cycling Centre in Manchester to compete in the annual school’s championships.

The weekend was brimming with talent and cheer spirit, here are some of the highlights from the competition:

UKCA Banner

Warm Up Area

There’s nothing more admirable than seeing the teams nervous and energetic working through their routines before heading to the mat.

Clown Costumes

Banners

We are in awe at every competition that sees the velodrome filled with bold vibrant colours and team spirit through the team’s uniforms, costumes and banners.

DJ Caino

Our resident compere, DJ Caino does a fantastic job working his magic on the crowd to release that cheer spirit.

Awards Ceremony

And if the excitement of the weekend wasn’t enough for us at the UKCA, we was recently invited to visit the House of Lords. The reason for the visit was to hear the amazing news that the UKCA are receiving recognition for their work with UK schools!

We’d love it if we could get a ‘We are proud of you’ chant going in the House of Lords.

And The Spirit Award Goes To…

We would like to say a huge well done to the winners of our Spirit Awards at this year’s School’s Championships!

Northern Ireland Allstar’s Sponsored Gibraltar Row

Cheerleading has reached new heights since its introduction to Northern Ireland back in 2008. Northern Ireland has hosted its fifth National Championships and the event attracts more young people to the dynamic and all inclusive team sport each year.

The sport is recognised at National and Junior European level under the guidance of UKCA regional development representative, Karen Graham.

Karen Graham

Karen – lead tutor and a judge here at the UKCA – is also head coach and director for the Northern Ireland Allstar cheerleading squad. The squad trains in three disciplines – cheerleading, cheer dance and street cheer – and is made up of cheerleaders from across Northern Ireland who have been selected at annual auditions to represent the country at UK Elite and European championships.

Karen has recently received an invitation from the Gibraltar Cheer Association to host an International Summer Camp. The project is the first of its kind between the two nations and allows Northern Ireland athletes to perform and compete alongside European teams.

Andrew Lavery

The most recent development has been the recognition received from Andrew Lavery from BodyLab N.I. Andrew is recognised for supporting local athletes in various sporting disciplines. As a sports professional and athlete, he understands the demanding skill requirements, dedication and hard work that goes into cheerleading, especially with it reaching this exciting stage in its short time in N.I. He has generously offered his premises for a support base to the Northern Ireland Allstars, who are participating in a sponsored row to Gibraltar.

The 3000k row in July 2014 is to raise funds for the team and head coach to join with the Gibraltar Cheer Association for the International Summer Camp. The Gibraltar local council have awarded funding to make the event a huge success because they recognise that it will be a major development for the sport of cheerleading.

Allstars Sponsored Row

The Allstars are currently working hard to raise contributions for the much needed funds. Friends, family members and clientele of BodyLab N.I gym are all invited to get on board and clock up the miles to help earn pounds for the squad.
