Setting Up A UKCA Club

ukca-slider-dec-15-2

Setting up a Cheerleading Club is one of the most rewarding areas of the sport. It will allow you to provide extra sporting and social opportunities to your local community whilst you and your squad develop as athletes and people, together.

Here is a brief overview of setting up a UKCA Club.

To be eligible to set-up an official UKCA Club you must be a qualified Cheerleading Coach and whilst it is not mandatory we suggest that coaches should seek to be aware of developments within the Sport of Cheerleading and are encouraged to seek opportunities for personal development.

Further requirements include:

• Insurance which all Coaches should have
• DBS Certificate
• First Aid Certificate

Once you have all of your formal personal documentation needed to set-up a Club then think about your Club’s Structure:

• Have a Constitution
• Are you going to run the Club/Squad as a sole trader or elect a committee before coaching begins or will this evolve over time?
• Will you need to find Volunteers to help?

Before your Coaching begins:

• Find a Venue
• Confirm times
• Market the Club

If you are struggling with setting up your Club/Squad or want to read our more in depth overview of Club Set-Up, you can visit https://ukca.org.uk/clubs/setting-up-a-club/ for more information about all the listed points above and more.

Winter Championship

“Had the best day, well done to everyone that competed ? we are proud of you say we are proud of you ?”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!

The UKCA Winter Championship 2015 was the 5th competition of another busy year for the organisation. We’ve hosted 5 Competitions throughout the year at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester and the Antrim Forum in Northern Ireland. It’s safe to say we’ve had an amazing year and we are very proud of you all!

We kicked off the competition on Saturday with UMC Elite in the Cheerleading Senior Level 3 category before we saw the amazing stunt squads who dazzled us with some spectacular gymnastic skills along with plenty of brilliant Cheerleading performances throughout the day. Sunday opened with our Pom Dance Level 2 groups: Pure Poison, Attitude Dance Leeds and Firestorm Inferno.

Along with Pom Dance and Cheer Dance we were treated to the superb Street Cheer teams and the fantastic freestylers who absolutely smashed it, getting the crowd on their feet and of course, both days were rounded off by the famous Mascot Dance-Off!

The drive and focus of everyone who competed was inspirational and the atmosphere created around the Velodrome was electric.

Natasha Barker said:
“It was an educational experience for all and as for me I got butterflies for each and everyone of the teams we saw walk out onto the comp floor. They were all amazing!

Yet again you excelled yourselves in providing the prestigious UKCA environment paired with that celebratory and supportive atmosphere. I cannot begin to imagine the amount of planning and preparation that goes into such events!

Well done to all at UKCA for such a good job, “We are proud of you!”

It’s always great to see everyone having fun with their team mates and encouraging each other and other teams. As always the Cheer Spirit awards were a difficult decision.

Saturday’s Milano Pro Sport Spirit Award winners were Rayz All-Starz and Sunday’s Insure4sport Spirit Award went to Kobika Starlites. We’d like to congratulate both clubs on their awards and everyone who took part in the 2015 Winter Championship it was such a fantastic weekend to be a part of.

All results from the UKCA Winter Championship 2015 competition are available here:

The Winter comp rounds off another year of UKCA competitions. We love to see the progress our Cheerleaders make throughout the year. The success of our competitions every year are down to the hard work of Cheerleaders and Coaches alike, the support of our volunteers and the unwavering support from friends and family!

Now we look ahead excitedly to another year of competitions.
