This weekend the National Cycling Centre in Manchester played host to UKCA’s penultimate competition of 2019, the UKCA National Schools’ Cheerleading Championships.

HIGHLIGHTS VIDEO:

The annual showcase of School Cheerleading Squads took place across two days and lived up to all the expectation. Schools from around the UK competed against their fellow squads across various Key Stages and Cheer categories, testing themselves at a national level.

Over the weekend we saw teams compete in Cheerleading, Disability Cheerleading, Pom Dance and Urban Cheer categories from KS1 up to KS5 as well as 2 customary Mascot Showdowns. As we’ve come to expect at our championships the standard of performances was incredibly high as each squad gave it their all to show the judges and the crowd what they can do. In addition to the trophies on offer to our Cheer athletes for their routines, there was also the Gateley Plc Spirit Award & Insure4Sport Spirit Award up for grab for teams showing exceptional Cheer Spirit.

We can’t wait to see you all in December for the UKCA Winter Cheerleading Championships on the 7th & 8th December.

The UKCA National Schools’ Championships 2019 are now just a week away!

The annual showcase of School Cheerleading Squads takes place at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester across two days and promises to be another fantastic occasion. Schools from all over the United Kingdom will compete against their peers across various Key Stages and Cheer categories. It’s their chance to show our judges and spectators what they’ve been working on and test themselves at a national level. The competition will begin at 9am on Saturday and Sunday. A full running order has been sent to all coaches.

In addition to the sporting competition, our Gateley Spirit Award and Insure4Sport Spirit Award will also be up for grabs for the Cheer squads who demonstrate exceptional Cheer Spirit throughout each day, so bring your smiles and Cheer loud and proud!

We can’t wait to welcome you all to another UKCA competition.

A school in Mold, Flintshire’s Cheerleading team were recently featured by their local newspaper LeaderLive following success in a local competition.

After Bryn Gwalia Sharks’ Year 5 and 6 Cheerleading teams won their Pom Dance category at Buckley Cheerleading Club’s Cheerfest event at Deeside Leisure Centre, they are now preparing for the UKCA National Schools’ Championships 2019.

Maria Kennedy their Cheer Coach said: “Cheerleading promotes good sportsmanship and encouragement of other teams and it is great for building confidence.

“Next, they’re entering the UK Cheerleading Association National Schools’ Championships at the the Manchester Velodrome on June 22 so they’re all practicing.”

Last weekend the UK Cheerleading Association’s 3rd major competition of the year, the UKCA Spring Cheerleading Championships 2019, took place at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester.

We saw some top class Cheerleading, Stunt, Partner Stunt, Group Stunt, Cheer Dance, Pom Dance and Urban Cheer performances as well as 2 Mascot Showdowns and a very special performance from Nela Šarić!

Day 1 was opened by Hurricanes who set the standard for the rest of the day’s competition with a superb performance. After an action packed day, Sparklers ended the first day in style before the eagerly anticipated Mascot Showdown. The high standards didn’t drop on Sunday as Horizon Hotshots’ excellent opener led us into the second day of competitive Cheerleading. Before the final Mascot Showdown and Award Ceremony of the weekend, Saturday’s Gateley Spirit Award winners, Wigan Vipers, closed the event with fantastic routine.

We’d like to say a huge well done to everyone who took part in the competition across the weekend and a huge thank you to everybody who made the event possible. As always you made it a weekend to remember! Keep sharing your pictures and selfies with us from the event using #UKCA.

Spectator tickets for our next competition, the UKCA National Schools’ Championships 2019, are available for purchase now. Grab yours today and take in all the action at the National Cycling Centre in June.

This weekend the UKCA Spring Cheerleading Championships 2019 take place at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester. Those attending the event on SUNDAY should be aware that there are road closures in the city as part of the Great Manchester Run.

This year’s Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run will take place on Sunday 19th May 2019 and includes the Junior, Mini, 10k and Half Marathon events. We’re celebrating 17 years of our hugely popular running event this year.

Several roads within the city will be affected by the events and road closures and traffic diversion plans will be in operation on the day. We’ll be installing warning notices seven days before the event.

The Mancunian Way and parts of Ashton New Road, Ashton Old Road and Alan Turing Way close to the National Cycling Centre are closed until 12:30 for the Half Marathon Route.

Attendees are advised to plan their journey and leave plenty of time to get to the venue.

Along with two of our 5 major competitions coming up this Summer, the UKCA Spring Championships 2019 and the 2019 UKCA National Schools’ Championships, we have a host of exciting training courses for you to get involved in too!

UKCA Courses are designed to assist and encourage the development of all attendees. Each course is run by a fully qualified instructor and we ensure that everyone who attends, finishes the day feeling confident and inspired.

Whether starting from scratch, or looking to improve your existing skills, the UKCA can help as courses delivered cover Cheerleading, Urban Cheer, Tumbling, Leadership, Judging, Event Officials, Volunteering, Safeguarding, Sports Injuries, Psychology and Lifestyles.

Once you have attended a course and it has been satisfactorily completed, you will receive a UKCA Certificate of Qualification. This certificate will allow you to develop your skills in your chosen area and Lead/Coach others.

TELL US SOMETHING CHEERFULLY GOOD: Amelia Price.

Amelia Price is a 12 year old Cheerleader that fell in love with the sport joining Apex.

Amelia isn’t like most other Cheerleaders as she is severely visually impaired with minimal vision on her right eye. She also had brain surgery which lead to problems with balance and coordination. She loves to dance but because of her needs many clubs denied her application. That’s when Apex welcomed her to their cheer family.

Working with her coaches and team mates, Amelia shows her determination and love she has for the sport despite not being able to do all the tricks and stunts. Apex always make her part of the routines and Amelia is looking forward to compete in May showing that cheerleading is sport for everybody.
