Brooke Allstarz (primary) and Brooke Twirly Birds (secondary) cheerleading squads from Rugby in Warwickshire were formed four years ago. They started out as lunchtime clubs run by teaching assistants who attended the UKCA Cheerleading Coaches course.
They wowed the judges four years ago at their first Nationals and we was so blown away by their talent that we gave them their own category, Special Schools Disability. This allowed them to compete with their mainstream peers.
The team has won numerous awards at the Special Schools County Championships and Special Schools Nationals so it was a privilege to have them compete at this year’s National School’s Championships at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester.
Following their performance, we received this thank you message from the team:
“I wanted to say a big thank you to the UKCA and all its helpers and volunteers for making our trip to the Nationals on Saturday such a fantastic day. You are all so kind, helpful and accommodating which takes the stress out the day for us and means we can enjoy everything without having to think or worry about a thing.
Our cheerleaders were thrilled with their 1st and 2nd places and the trophies too of course. My self and the other coaches were totally shocked with our very unexpected trophy for Schools Development and we are also very excited and thrilled to be recognised for our hard work.
Many, many thanks for a wonderful day.
Sharon”
We are glad you’re thrilled with the trophies, very much deserved!
