Host A Course This Summer

We love this time of year, especially when the weather is good and we can get outside and enjoy the sun! However, we know that as the school holiday weeks roll on, trying to find activities to keep energised and occupied can be tricky. It’s important that during the long holiday that we stay active so now is a perfect time to get involved in Cheerleading.

If you have a suitable venue you can host your own Cheerleading course. It’s a great way to help young cheerleaders develop and make the most of their spare time, whilst making new friends and staying active!

If you would like to host a closed course (private course for your group only) a minimum of 16 participants is required and for an open course (where other people can book on) a minimum of 12 participants is required. The maximum number of participants per course is 30 (unless another number is agreed with UKCA in advance.

The venue you decide to host your course in must provide the following:

– Sole use of clean, warm room with adequate floor space and seating
– Access to male, female and disabled toilets
– A TV/projector and DVD player
– Access to a stereo/CD player
– Parking facilities
– Tea, coffee and refreshments facilities (if possible)
– For Tumbling or Stunting Courses, mats and additional gymnastic equipment will be required

For all courses UKCA will prepare posters Free of Charge for you to print or forward by email to all prospective participants. This is an ideal way to keep young athletes active, occupied and gaining qualifications they’ll need for the future.

Cheerleading Insurance

At UKCA we are proud to say that Cheerleading is one of the fastest growing and most physically active sports in the country. One of the reasons for this despite the obvious health and social benefits for participants is the amazing spectacle that Cheerleading creates, which is why we always have such a large crowd at our competitions. All of our Cheerleaders are specially trained by the highest level coaches who work hard to ensure that all of our competitors are safe from grass roots to elite levels.

However, accidents can happen, which is why it’s vital that coaches and clubs have the necessary insurance.

“Cheerleading has become an integral part of a great many sports, and indeed it has been elevated to a sport in its own right. Competitions are held nationally and internationally, with coaches choreographing ever-more ambitious routines in order to win the approval of the judges. In such a high-flying, twisting-and-turning world, cheerleading insurance is a must-have for everyone who wants to maximise their enjoyment of the sport.” – Insure4Sport

To find out more about Cheerleading insurance visit: https://www.insure4sport.co.uk/sport.aspx?sport=23&ref=UKCA

This page covers Common Cheerleading Injuries, Muscle Pulls & Tears, Whiplash/Neck Injuries and Why choose insure4sport for your Cheerleading Insurance.

Insurance covers you for any rare mishaps that may occur during Cheerleading activity so it’s important that the correct arrangements are made. We pride ourselves on working closely with coaches to ensure that this exciting sport develops and all participants are safe. We can’t wait to see you all flying high soon!

A Busy, Inspiring Week

As always there is plenty to talk about at the UKCA. As we continue preparations for the upcoming UKCA Spring Championships in May, we have seen coaching courses and even an inspirational talk from Official UKCA Ambassador Vicky Howarth at a Manchester Community Group.

Earlier this week a group of UKCA Cheerleaders took part in a leadership course in Chorley as part of their development in the sport and we managed to get some pictures of them in action!

We hope you all had a great time and learnt plenty!

Joining a UKCA course helps Cheerleaders to improve and develop skills in an encouraging environment that helps the next generation of Cheerleaders feel confident and inspired by the sport. If you would like to take the next step on your Cheerleading journey find a course that’s right for you at ukca.org.uk/education/upcoming-courses/.

UKCA Ambassador Vicky Howarth, is someone whose sporting journey has been an inspiration to everyone at the association and recently she shared her story as she gave a very inspiring speech to a community group in Wythenshaw, Manchester. She spoke about how she has overcome her extremely rare condition that causes the degeneration of sight which has led to her becoming a National Champion at the Riding for the Disabled Association National Competition 2015 as well as achieving amazing results in her equestrian career winning over 300 1st place rosettes in National equestrian competitions. In addition to her horse riding achievements Vicky has become a dedicated member of the Cheerleading association and coaches a number of teams in Manchester. UKCA have supported Vicky throughout her journey as a Cheerleader and sportswoman, her commitment at competitions and events is amazing and she also gives others a helping hand.

After the talk Vicky received this letter thanking her for inspiring talk and wishing her luck for the future. UKCA are extremely proud and privileged to work with Vicky. We are proud of you, say we are proud of you!

Hard Work & Dedication

At UKCA our mission is to provide a positive channel for health and social education through Cheerleading to all regardless of gender, class, creed, culture, race or physical limitation. Our vision is for all of our members to benefit from the sport of Cheerleading in as many ways as possible including confidence building and raising self-esteem, development of trust and friendship, education through ‘FUN’ on health and social issues and access to sporting and health opportunities that promote drive and focus.

Encouraging a positive mental attitude is paramount at UKCA which is why we reward our competitors with Spirit Awards at every competition. Enthusiasm is a vital part of young people’s development, particularly in sport. It helps to build confidence, self-belief and hard work.

With this in mind we wanted to share the exceptional dedication of one of our very own UKCA members. Maddison, a junior athlete from BGC, has been religiously stretching every night at home for 6 months to improve her Needle stunt.

Maddison’s improvement is proof that hard work really pays off and her dedication is an inspiration.

We are proud of you, say we are proud of you!
