UKCA Winter Cheerleading Championships 2018 – Review

This weekend the UKCA Winter Championships 2018 took place for the first time at Belle Vue Sports Village, showcasing some of the finest Cheer talent in the country.

The final competition of 2018 saw Cheer athletes competed across Cheerleading, Group Stunt, Partner Stunt, Pom Dance, Cheer Dance and Urban Cheer categories, followed each day by the customary Mascot Showdown!

Buckley Cheerleading Club lit up the venue with a sparkling opening performance to the competition. We were lead through the morning by Cheerleading and Group Stunt teams before the first of THREE Awards Ceremonies that would take place over the weekend. The afternoon of Day 1 saw another batch of fantastic Cheerleading, Group Stunt and Partner Stunt teams proving their talent to the judges before the day’s Mascot Showdown and our second Awards Ceremony.

Day 2 began with Flux Dance Academy as we were treated to a morning of first-class Pom Dance routines followed by an incredible afternoon of Cheer Dance and Urban Cheer performances. Sunday’s Mascot Showdown soon followed and we ended the day with our third and final Awards Ceremony.

As always at UKCA competitions, the standards on display from the Cheer athletes were exceptionally high, making it a magnificent weekend for both spectators and judges.

All of the results from the weekend can be found at:

Sport and Recreation Alliance #RightToBeActive Petition

Back in September we shared with you 2 fantastic initiatives that were announced at the Sport and Recreation Alliance Conference 2018.

The event consisted of Guest Keynote Speakers, Interactive Panel Discussions, the Annual General Meeting and the Autumn Divisional Meetings – where members from different divisions could focus on issues relevant to likeminded organisations.

Throughout the day attendees were introduced to two major initiatives: Do It – Join In and The #RightToBeActive Petition.

Sport and Recreation Alliance’s petition calls for UK Government to give every child the fundamental #RightToBeActive by: Establishing a new law requiring councils to provide all children with the opportunity to be active, Creating a long-term, properly funded and child-focussed strategy to transform the physical and mental wellbeing of our children and Introducing new legislation to make it a requirement for government ministers and public bodies to put the United Nations Rights of the Child, the right to play and lead a healthy life, at the heart of decision making.

It’s an important initiative that aims to create a bright and healthy future for children in UK.

Since the petition was created it has gained over 1500 signatures from people who are ready to see a change. However Sport and Recreation Alliance still need more support to reach their 2500 signature goal.

Children in Need 2018

Today is Children in Need 2018! However you are celebrating and raising money have fun!

Children in Need provides grants to projects in the UK which focus on children and young people who are disadvantaged. They are local to people in all corners of the UK and support small and large organisations which empower children and extend their life choices.

Children in Need is currently supporting 2,400 projects all across the UK. The projects they fund help children facing a range of disadvantages for example poverty and deprivation; children who have been the victims of abuse or neglect or disabled young people.

It’s a wonderful cause!

Lest We Forget

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
