Belfast TITANS Cheerleaders bring lots of cheer to the local Community

Saturday 11th February witnessed a cheerful group of 20, brightly clad youngster’s, bin bags in hand, including Parents, sweep the streets of Belfast for stray rubbish.

Bin bags were bulging by the end of a hard mornings work and the streets were left spotless including the grounds of the local Fire station which was grateful for a fresh and clean shop front!

The young squad of cheerleaders were on the quest to raise funds for their newly formed community club which attracts children from the greater Belfast areas and in return give something back to their local community. To date the squad can boast 23 members coming from East, West & North Belfast. The squad are working hard to achieve one of their goals , to compete at the United Kingdom Cheerleaders Association 4th N. Ireland Championships which take place on 31st March, Antrim Forum.

The TITANS team spirit is overwhelming and the enthusiasm to organise the clean up of the local community shows true teamwork and sportsmanship. Even the parents have caught the bug and many new friendships have formed since the first meeting of the Belfast TITANS.

The girls achievements to date have certainly confirmed that Cheerleading is truly the Sport of Smiles.
The aims of the sport and in particular that of Gov Body UKCA are to raise self-esteem, build confidence and encourage self discipline, develop friendships, mutual trust and respect through teamwork and educate through FUN and health and social issues.
Belfast Titans have certainly shown evidence of achieving all.

Belfast Titans formed in September 2011 are aptly named after the TITANIC in celebration of the centenary of Belfast’s historic ship. History shows many communities worked together to build Belfast’s icon and Belfast TITANS have embraced this culture and ethos in their club.

Belfast TITANS are welcoming new members in April 2012 following their debut at the NI Championships. For further information please email Karen@ukca.org.uk or visit the Squads new FACEBOOK page Belfast TITANS.
