UKCA National Cheerleading Championships 2018 – Review

Another special weekend at the Manchester Velodrome.

In the week leading up to UKCA’s first competition in Manchester of 2018 the UK blanketed in snow and plunged into freezing temperatures but the country’s fierce army of Cheerleaders descended on the National Cycling Centre and brought the heat!

The weekend kicked off with a performance from Cheerleading Level 3 athletes who helped to warm the crowd and get us off to a flying start. Throughout the rest of the weekend we saw Cheerleaders compete across Cheerleading, Stunt, Cheer Dance, Pom Dance & the all new Urban Cheer category! As we’ve all come to expect at UKCA competitions the standard was extremely high and there was no shortage of highlights! The National Championships carry extra significance for athletes as it is their opportunity to qualify to compete at the European Cheerleading Championships and represent the UK.

The results from both days of competitions of now live on our website:

Saturday Results

Sunday Results

UKCA events are about much more than competition. They are about having fun and creating lasting memories together! Throughout the day we were treated to Limbo dancing, Mascot Showdowns and Jason’s all new Swish Swish game, which you can see clips of on our Instagram feed! It’s fair to say Cheer Spirit was very high which made choosing the winners of the all important Spirit Awards incredibly difficult!

Saturday’s Gateley Spirit Award went to Wigan Vipers
