On Friday 8th April the Warwickshire Schools Pom Dance Competition took place at North Leamington School. 30 primary teams, 16 secondary and 4 special school teams took to the floor throughout the course of the day. 750 children/young adults from KS1 – KS5 participated in the annual spectacle. Thank you to “Gemini” for the judges, Kim Stevenson for additional support and helpers on the day.
Four years ago this competition started with just 16 teams in total competing. The growth and enthusiasm in schools for cheerleading in Warwickshire has been fantastically supported by the Eastern and Central School Sports Partnership. The SSP’s have hosted 9 cheerleading coaching courses for the UK Cheerleading Association and funded numerous coaches and projects within schools. Many of the older students now have coaching qualifications and help with feeder primary and their own secondary teams. The membership in local clubs has also risen.
